Farmers Markets in Connecticut, September V
Dear Mad Hatters,
Monday's USA TODAY had a front page story on the growing number of farmers markets across the nation, "Interest Blooms in Farmers Markets" (USA TODAY, 9/28/09, page 1A). According to the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), in the past decade the number of farmers markets has increased 71% - wow! 5% in the past year alone. Driving factors include " a growing desire by consumers to know more about food sources, concern over the environment and an increased sense of community..." So give yourselves a pat on the back for making a difference! And thank you.
Today is the last day of the Woodbury Farmers Market so come meet us down at Hollow Park between 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.. Winter Squash is in abundance and the weather is good for eating roasted veggies or maybe a hearty soup - yummy!
The Ridgefield Farmers Market (Fridays 3:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.,www.ridgefieldfarmersmarket.org,) continues through the end of October.
This week, Mad Hatter Farm will have:
- Gourmet Lettuce Mix
- Spicy Greens Mix
- Arugula
- Cardinale Head Lettuce
- Brussle Sprouts
- Carrots
- Radish
- Beets
- Green Onion
- Leeks
- Bulb Onion
- Sweet Peppers
- Garlic
- Winter Squash
Have a good week and see you soon!
