Summer Reading, August II
Dear Mad Hatters,
We hope you have all been having a nice summer. The sun is shining, sometimes. And, as unelievable as it may be, school is about to start. College kids are heading off and high school kids have two more weeks of freedom! Which made me think, we need an organic farmers' summer reading list, so here it is:
The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan
Animal, Vegetable, Miracle by Barbara Kingsolver
Prodigal Summer by Barbara Kingsolver
Under the Tuscan Sun by Frances Mayes
Mycelium Running by Paul Stamets
For those of you in the northwest corner, Michael Pollan will be speaking this Saturday, August 15, at 1pm, at the Cornwall Consolidated School courtesy of the Cornwall Library. Tickets are $25 and can be purchased in advance or at the door. He will also be signing books at the Cornwall Farmers Market Saturday morning. For more information, call T: 860-672-6874.
Paul Stamets is a mycologist and author who believes that mushrooms can save the world. Check out his website at www.fungiperfecti.com. Jeff has attended Stamets seminar in Washington State and it was terrific. Very interesting guy and very interesting mycelium.
This week at the Woodbruy Farmers Market (Wednesday 3:00 p.m. - 6:00 p.m.) and the Ridgefield Farmers Market (Friday 3:00 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.), Mad Hatter Farm will have an assortment of the following:
Gourmet Lettuce Mix
Spicy Greens Mix
Arugula
Mizuna greens Mix
Beets
Radishes
Carrots
Fennel
Eggplant
Kale
Marketmore Cucumbers
Pickling Cucumbers
Zucchinis ?
What else? I don't know...You'll have to come and find out!
Take Care,
Alix and Jeff
