At Mad Hatter Farm, while we are not certified organic, we do follow the criteria required of "certified" organic farms.  In doing so, we strive to protect the land from synthetic chemicals, be they fertilizers or pesticides, that harm not only the soil, but the whole eco-system that surrounds and supports the farm.

Dear Mad Hatters,

 

As farmers we are obsessed with the weather.  We check the radar several times a day, and plan our lives and harvesting accordingly.  Do I need my rain pants or my SPF shirt?  Fleece jacket or mosquito head net?  Can I pick all of the peas before it rains?  Should I let the broccoli sit in the sun with rain water on it, or should I harvest it before it goes bad?  Can the cabbages take one more day of sun?

Rain on 24 of the last 28 days - can you believe it!  June was the second rainiest June on record! 

 

This did not go unnoticed by your farmers.  We are soggy and muddy and tired of slugs.
